The Trace & Save consultants application interface
Farm data is uploaded to the Trace & Save database using the application
THE TRACE & SAVE SYSTEM
Trace & Save uses various measures of on-farm indicators to attain a trustworthy, holistic measure of agricultural sustainability, namely:
- The SWAN system
- Biodiversity conservation
- People welfare
- Animal welfare
Each of these are explained below, with examples of how the data is presented for feedback to farmers.
1. The SWAN system
Soil
Soil samples can be taken by composite sampling, core sampling (samples taken on specific geo-located points) and/or in-field spectrophotometry (i.e. probing – Trace & Save currently uses a Veris P4000 probe). Indicators of soil life, fertility and structure are measured. The full list of the indicators used can be found by logging on as a guest and browsing the Soil report page. All of the soil data is displayed on charts, maps and tables on the application (examples are shown below), and on charts and maps on the website.
